Fever

Look at the sickly chap... He's been running a temperature since Friday night. Temperature ranges between 38+ to 39+. Seen a doc, but doc didn't say much, we don't really know what's the cause of the problem.

It didn't help with a naggy mil around the house and keep asking me how come baby's temperature is not coming down... and keeps bugging me to bring him to see doctor when we already consulted one and doc's advice was to monitor him till Tuesday morning. She further makes my blood boil when she insisted to apply rice wine all over Declan's body and she took great pain to apply extra amount on his head.... I'm not really sure whether that will help, but it worries me that the alcohol will seep through his skin and get into his blood...

I can't stop her.... the feeling that my son is not my own is back again.... why can't i have some say when it comes to the well being of my son...??

Hi Ivy:

here are some facts that might cool you to some extent.
1) rice wine is a sweet wine made from fermenting steamed glutinous rice, which is quite low in alcohol content
2) Alcohol is a low boiling materials. And most of the times it vaporizes immedietly as you apply it on your skin. A small fraction though makes ot through the skin. But it will be in extremely low in amount to cause any problem to the kid.

However, extensive treatment with alcohols might result in some problems on a long run.

Not to worry. All will be fine, just cheer up.

It wasn't easy when it comes to this...

I had the same problem with my Mom...but thank goodness baby is better after using the hard-boiled egg method I told u...I guess this is a better alternative as compared to...using the rice wine.

Rice wine has a cooling effect on our skin...however, to avoid skin sensitivity on Declan, better avoid this method!

I have this super kancheong friend who swear by this method: Whenever her son has a stubborn fever, she will chop up a handful of onion ( small ), wrap it all in a hanky and apply it on the pulse points. It works for her. You might want to try it.

I don't have MIL here with me and she is also the bochup type anyway, but what i learnt is not to fight them. State your reasons and quickly whisk Dec away! Kiat must be very supportive here.

Hey Phoebe, I have a question...Won't the onion leave a burning sensation on the little one's skin?

Anyway...our MIL will not give up nagging at Ivy I guess...She will try to nag and nag till she sets her hands on Declan with the rice wine...

For the time being...Just hope that Declan recovers fast to 'avoid' the wine treatment!

can't whisk away...she'll follow behind my back like my shadow till i give my son to her...

not only will she follow, she will keep her hand extended outwards all the time until she take possession of her precious grandson...

We will be using the juices from the onions, it wouldn't burn the skin as far as i know.

Wah, your MIL very 'ba dao'! Very hard to avoid clashes eh? Its really hard not to compromise on Dec's well being and be amiable with your MIL! Can Kiat do anything?

What a MIL you have!!

Don't bother so much about her now, just concentrate on taking care of your Dec, i hope he's much better now! All the best!

yl moving out is not an option.. it'll be disrespectful if i close the door on her right...?

Phoebe, there's nothing much Kiat can do as it's his mum after all.

I avoid clashes with her by keeping quiet and sulking behind her back and of course complain to Kiat. I also console myself that she is doing all this because she really love her grandson alot and she has his best intention in mind but she refuse to acknowledge that the method she use is not right....

Somehow it makes me feel better... and frankly speaking she really loves Declan alot. The whole problem i guess is generation gap..
