Our Christmas Day

Christmas Day we set out early and left to our very own nest at Jurong West. It’s been 1 year plus since we last stayed up there. Kiat invited his colleagues over for pot luck and we wanted to be there early to buy our share of contribution and also to clean up the place a little. We had “unexpected additions” that day… -Keith and Evelyn. sigh….. let’s not talk about it… Anyway, they came in “handy” as they helped us carried our purchases back.

After getting drinks, honey baked ham and fruits, we chanced upon a free ice cream offer while searching for ribs! In the end we didn’t manage to get the ribs, instead each one of us get a free cup of yummy ice cream which normally cost $2.80 each. What a steal!

After enjoying our ice cream we headed home. It was a long and tiring journey... we don't drive... so we had to drag all our groceries and a toddler home with the help of 2 kids...

AFter we recuperated from the "tough journey", our christmas mood came. Look at us playing santa!

Can't get a nice family "santa" pic as Dec kept wanting to pull of the hat... so the evil mama and papa decided to do away with the uncooperative toddler whahahhaha

Ain't the 3 little santas cute??

It’s pot luck time!!

Looks yummy huh?!

We had log cake, honey baked ham, smoked duck, sandwich platter, sushi platter (not in the pic as the guest bringing it came pretty late), satay, steamed corn, fruit platter, drinks, beer and wine!

After we ate and all guests left, look who's cleaning up??

Master Dec! Nah... just kidding, he's just messing around with that thingy. Kiat did all the cleaning while all I did was laze around :p

Merry Christmas 2006!!!!

Merry Christmas!!! HO HO HO!

The Dad is on LEAVE

The dad is on leave from 23rd to 28th Dec! Yahoooooooooooooooo!!! That means we can cramp plenty and plenty of activities into this period of time! Let’s see what we have done so far :

23rd Dec 2005, Friday

All of us woke up at about 9am. Our first destination was to the West Coast Branch of Modern Montessori International (MMI) School. I’ve been contemplating whether to send Declan to the MMI’s playgroup. The difference between the full day and half day fees is just $3 due to the diff in subsidy. Ain’t it absurd???? I’ve never thought of sending him in there full day as I prefer him to grow up in a home environment. Having said that, I also wanted him to have some different activities other than cooping up at home and watching Barney VCDs. So, probably I will look at sending him in on alternate days on a half day basis. He was very curious at the environment and he keeps meddling with the Montessori toys when we were there. Anyway, I’ll decide on that later, most likely I will send him in after CNY. No pictures were taken as I am not sure whether it was allowed.

After MMI, we brought Declan together with us to KBox for KLunch. Heheheheh. After watching us using the microphone for a while, he figured out that he’ll he able to amplify his voice if he speaks into the rounded thingy. He picked up the idle microphone and said “ba………” into it in a mono tone. Mostly likely he is trying to sing hahaha… We fed him muffin and vitasoy while he swayed a little to some music and watch the video intently.

Image hosted by Photobucket.comImage hosted by Photobucket.com

However, he spent most of his time destructing KBox’s property though :p After we are done, the muffin crumbs were everywhere, it left the seats oily and sticky. His vitasoy was spilled all over the table, the stand holding the flyers and menu was chipped at one corner as he threw it on the floor, coasters were everywhere :p I bet we had since been black listed.

After singing karaoke, we headed home for a nap before we headed to EXPO for a great magic play “Magic of Love at Christmas” starring the renown local father and daughter magician duo Lawrence & Priscilla.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

A business associate invited us to the play. Having not look at the invitation card properly, I thought it will be another Christianity theme play. Upon arriving, when I saw the stand up bill board with Lawrence and Priscilla’s face then I realize that it will be something different. It was really a great show, not the usual magic shows which we saw on TV. Magic was incorporated into a play with a very heartwarming story, it’s a pity that we had to leave during the 15 mins break as we were running late….. Though the show was good, Declan fell asleep less than half an hour into the show… The consoling fact was that we watched the play for FREEEEE. No photos taken either as it was not allowed.

24 Dec 2005 Sat

We started our day with breakfast at CafĂ© cartel. This time we brought mum in law along. This is actually our Christmas meal. Usually folks will have Christmas dinner, this year we decided to make it a little different by having “Christmas Breakfast”. The food was cheap and good! All breakfast set comes with free flow of bread, coffee or tea and a muffin! Yummy Yummy!

After breakfast we went shopping. I had to do some last minute x’mas shopping and we all got home at about 3+pm. We nap again, afterwhich I woke up to wrap the presents, laze around a little, had dinner and off we went to 3rd uncle’s place for a BBQ session. Kiat and myself didn’t eat much but our little monster ate plenty! BBQ chicken, maize, fruits and cheese biscuits too!

Image hosted by Photobucket.comImage hosted by Photobucket.com

He met a little friend at the BBQ. They are born just 2 months apart. Being the "kor kor" he kept patting the "di di's" head when he walked past him. So funny hahaha. Dec also tried holding his hands and they even attempted shaking hands. Just like what adults do when they met. Dec also went digging for cheese biscuits and shared with Shi Jie (the little friend's name). It's a chore getting Declan to sit still so that I can get a pic of the 2 of them together. Shi Jie is the tamer of the 2. He can sit quietly for long period of time, unlike my little bulldozer.

Wow! We actually did so much within 2 days! Wonderful! but poor daddy and baby are really tired.

Eating Habit

Declan's eating habit is very erratic. He snacks alot and he don't usually finish his meals. He can't sit still to finish one square meal. More often than not he'll be too restless and impatient to sit throught the whole course of his lunch/dinner and when he don't finish his main meals, he'll ask for snacks every now and then. I'll just give it to him as I don't want him to go hungry just to discipline him on meal routines. It don't make sense also if I were to feed him heavy meals whenever he ask for snacks right? Some parents may agree while some parents may wag their fingers and shake their heads at me for doing that.

In fact, in my case, more parents think that my practice is not right. I start to question myself whether I am doing the right thing by giving him little snacks when he ask for it. However, looking at how little he eats during his regular meals, I do feel concern about his nutrition intake and that will spur me to give him his snacks.

An article i read from Baby Center assures me that what i am doing is not really wrong. The articles says :

It's probably unrealistic to expect your energetic toddler to sit still for three square meals a day, so try giving your child a variety of foods (yogurt, pizza, fruit, vegetables, cheese and crackers) throughout the day to keep hunger pangs at bay. Remember, a hungry, sleep-deprived toddler is a meltdown waiting to happen

Phew.... so now I feel better whenever I give him snacks and I give him healthy snacks like yogurt, yogurt drinks, cheese sticks, fruits and biscuits etc.

What food do you mamas give your little one as snacks?

Shopping for new year clothes

First of all I will like to share with all that I've got a new phone!!! Which means, I will be able to snap more photos on the go and post it here!

Yesterday the whole gang (includes kiat, his sis's family and his mum) went shopping together after my work. The whole bunch of us spent about 3 hours in Orchard OG. As usual, the females enjoy the shopping, the kids enjoy treating the whole 3-4 levels of retail space as their playground while the men get all frustrated and exhausted babysitting the kids. Poor Kiat spent the whole time chasing after Declan and putting up with Dec's struggle to break free from his grasps. I know it was very tiring for him but no choice we have to get the shopping done. This year's new year is exceptionally early and we have not bought any new year clothes yet.

Wanna see what my little monster did throughout the 3 hrs? Here you go :

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

hmm don't understand why all toddlers like to hide under the clothes racks..

there was a point where I think Dec got really tired of running around and he just went "orh orh" (sleep) and lied down on the floor and started rolling around... It was quite a funny sight

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

He really knows how to make himself comfortable.. while taking a sip from his magmag cup, instead of standing or sitting on the floor while drinking, he choose a rack which height was just right for him to rest his butt on.

Image hosted by Photobucket.comImage hosted by Photobucket.com

At the end of 3 hours my acquisitions are as shown :

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

3 pair of pants, 1 t-shirt, 1 shirt and a pair of shoes for Dec. It's extremely difficult to buy nice clothes for little boys... Pretty clothes are everywhere for little girls but for boys.. it's always the boring looking stuffs... I was quite glad to be able to hunt down these pieces for him. The pair of cargo pants and white bermudas was a steal as they only cost $7.90 each!!! and we got the rest at 20% off the retail price. The pair of shoes was a "pushy buy"... We tried it on for Dec and he refused to let it go.. so no choice.. gotta pay for it...

Throughout the 3 hours we only manage to hunt down clothes for Declan, I was fortunate to find a piece of jacket at only $19.90!
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Poor Kiat didn't get anything except aches all over his body for babysitting Dec. MIL got a bonia handbag and Sil bought some clothes for her children too.

We manage to get 2 OG member cards from all the shopping. Not too bad yah?? hmmm I will gear up more this weekend to start hunting for Kiat and my clothes. Otherwise we will have a handsome baby with sloppy parents on CNY.

Killer Banner

It took me 3+ hours to replace the template... make a good guess how many hours I took to add th 3 pics on the title bar..?

FOUR HOURS!!! What the hell... I don't believe I'm really such an html idiot.... I can't believe it actually took 4 of my precious hours just to insert 3 pics on the top...

I did it cos mama Jessie says the title bar looks empty.. and I do agree.

Now I probably need to go lie down for another couple of hours to nurse a shoulder ache.... Adios folks....

New Year New Look

Finally, I got my butt up and do something about the monotonous look of my blog. Seeing that many mamas had took great pain and effort to give their blog a fresh look, I guess I should not just sit around and let my baby's blog rot. Wanting to do it is one thing, getting down to doing it is another... look at the time now?? wahhhh 2:36am already.... Applaude my effort please!!! I'm an IT idiot... i nearly died while changing the template... the html codes nearly killed me.... so if you guys spot any flaws just ignore it ok??? Mercy mercy me!!! I can't fix it!!

Looking back, my first post was on 21 December 2004. Wow! It's nearly a year since I started blogging about my little boy. How time flies and when I relook at the photo in that post, the grouchy boy in there does't look like the one sleeping on my bed now at all. It just reminded me how fast these little ones really grow.

So let this new look be a little pressie to myself and my boy and hope that I will have time and energry and enough brain cells to continue to update about him in years to come. Cheers! Merry X'mas!

Hot Babe

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Don't he looks "hot" in this pic? Jokes aside, I'm really having a hot babe in the house... his temperature measured 39 degress this morning at 3am.. he was twitching and to me it looks a little like shivering or convulsion, I'm not really sure... what I'm damn sure was his little fingers turned purplish. That jotted us out of bed and rush him down to Mt Alvernia.

Did a blood test and everything turns out fine. Phew! However doc says that having high temperature for 3 days it's unusual. His fever come and go come and go. Doc suspects throat infection. I'm glad that he's still very active despite the temperature.

Let's hope he'll be "cool" soon, otherwise we'll need to send him in to Mt A again....

Faves of Dec

There are a couple of things which Dec loves.

First of all, his all time favorite is food and snack.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

He loves cheese but not cheesecake. What a waste as his mum is an all time cheesecake fan. He now knows how to get food for himself from the fridge. Sometimes when he fails in plying open the fride, he'll pull anyone who is free by the hand, by the collar, by the leg, by the shirt etc to the fridge and goes "nahhh nahhh" He'll ask for the "little gems" (grapes) which we kept in there for him or he'll hit the lower drawer to get "ball ball" (orange)

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

He's got plenty of toys and that little noisy "piano" is one of his favorite. He'll dance and swirl around with its music and sometimes when he refuses to sleep, we can even use it to coax him to sleep. Can't imagine he can actually sleep with the "music" this little noisy thing makes. He practically can hug it to sleep.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Look at this yoga babe? He saw his cousin did that once and from then on he's obsesssed with doing the forward flip... I really worry that he'll sprain his neck, but nothing can stop him from practising the flip. It's fortunate that he'll only do it when we are around with him. There's a few time we have to catch him to prevent him from flipping off the bed.....no amount of explaining, scolding etc can stop him....

Can you spot the purple dino in the background of the last pic? That's his new fave too. He'll ask to watch "nini" (Barney) everyday after breakfast.

A trip to Sentosa

Few weeks back (can't really remember when :p old liao got bad memory) brought Declan and his cousin Evelyn to Sentosa fo some fun. Below are some pics to compensate for the lack of posts recently.

The daddy dug out a heart and I put his son on the little hearty island that daddy created.

Can you folks believe that the sleeveless T and blue tights which evelyn was wearing actually comes from my wardrobe?? is she big or am i small???

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

I spent most of the time looking after our belongings while the 3 of them fool around in the sand. I guess daddy spent "part" of his time checking out the bikini gals. Evelyn spent most of her time digging into the sand and Declan spent most of his time trying to find out what does sand taste like. He kept shoving sand into his own mouth and then spitting it out again... reminds me of luo han fish...

On Leave

Hi Folks, I've disappeared for 1 whole week. I will like to "apply leave" from blogging for at least another 1 week. Very busy with follow ups on my work. Even when I squeeze some time to sit in front of PC hoping to blog something, my mind just go blank... Too tired, brain not working... can't write anything...

oh yah, mummies who left comments on my last post, the daddy is now in cloud nine, "hearing" everyone echoing that the boy is a replica of him. hehehhe hmmmm... i always though my boy have my eyes.. don't he? hmmmmmm

Be back soon!

Naked Declan

A trip to the zoo

I received an "official complain" from one of Declan's fan. She complained that I am putting up less and less pictures. I agree lah. But aiyah mamas and aunties not that i don't wanna put up pics, but it's bcos my handphone camera kaput. It's always easier to carry around ahandphone camera then a digi cam. so ahh that's one of the reasons why nowadays less pic.

So to make up for the loss, I am putting up some long over due pics which i took when we brought declan to the zoo about 3 weeks back. When I was uploading the photos, I realised I took more pictures of Declan than the animals :p

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
He simply loves to slide down this roller slide. I think HDB estate should install one of this. It's so much easier to roll off then those plastic type which is all around the island nowadays. This type won't leave you with a burnt butt.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
He enjoyed the swing too. Swings are rare in the HDB playgrounds too.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

He really enjoyed this trip to the zoo. He was going "neh" and pointing at the animals which he saw. He was busy turning his head this way and that trying to take in all the views which he could see. He loves the ape family best especially when they were swinging on the trees. It was a pretty enjoyable trip.

The picutres which we took with animals didn't turn out nice... so won't be putting them up here. Maybe I should just go trade in my phone and get one with the phone camera working....

Silly Kong Kong and My Cry Baby

When I reached home at 1145pm yesterday night (after working for more than 10 long hours) I was greeted by a fussy todd. The dad said that it was because the naughty 'kong kong' bluffed the little todd that he's gonna bring him 'kai kai'. I rolled my eyes upon hearing that and cursed under my breath :"@##$%%^ … kong kong always do this kind of stupid things! at times when we were trying to coax him to sleep, he'll come into the room (usually after 10 pm) and asked the kiddo :" BB kong kong bring u gai gai." of course the silly todd will take him for real and get all hyped up thereby driving away all the sleepy bugs which we are trying to “breed” in him.

Kong kong will then just carry him for a 'symbolic' walk around the squeezy 4 room flat. The todd may be silly but not stupid. In his limited vocabulary, 'kai kai' means must wear his shoes, grab the keys, unlock the gate, get out of it and go down the stairs at least. When he realized that he has been con by kong kong, he'll then cry in frustration and kong kong will then realized he can't handle him and he'll hand us back the crying todd before he return to his room, lie down on his mattress and SLEEP while we have to deal with a wailing and frustrated baby.

I reached home at 1145pm, he was crying, I tried soothing him but to no avail, so I left him with kiat and went to take my shower. After my shower he was still crying. I had my dinner at 1230am. After i'm done with my dinner, he's still crying...

Nothing we did seem to be able to soothe him. Finally I pulled out a pack of cheese super ring, opened it and gave him a piece. He stopped! He crunched on the cheese rings and seemed happy. But that didn't last long... After munching on a few pieces, he got irritable and cried again. I carried him, rocked him, talked to him, threw him in the air etc. Nothing worked. Kiat was already long exhausted and is getting irritable himself as he's been facing his tantrum the whole day while I was at work.

I totally ran out of ideas on how to make him stop crying, so I just continue to rock him until he shrieked out the golden word : 'nei nei!' he wanted his milk!! wonderful! True to my prediction after drinking his milk, he immediately fell asleep. Phew!!!!!

I looked at the time after all was quiet, it was already 1.50 am :( what's wrong with him? he has been throwing bad tantrums lately. Can it be because his molars are surfacing soon? I don't think any todd will cry for 2-3 hrs in the middle of the night just because he didn't get to go 'kai kai' right?

Glad to be home

Ah I’m really glad that I hv the opportunity to be at home to watch declan grow. Though there are times when I get really frustrated with him but overall I still appreciate this luxury. Only SAHMs will know what the working mummies are missing out.

Whenever I notice declan learn some new skills or words i'll be really thrilled and when i'm thrilled, he'll be thrilled too and the both of us will end up giggling away together. He has the habit of laughing together with others whenever he hears laughter. It doesn't matter that he doesn’t know what they are laughing about; he'll just laugh after them if he's in a good mood. I noticed he learns a lot of things through mimicking people around him. During the past week, these are the things I observed that he's learnt:

1) he says :' chame chame' and giggle away while using his index finger to stroke his cheeks. 'chame chame' actually means 'shame shame'

2) for the longest time, he only knows how to nod his head. It was only like last week that he's learnt to shake his head to express that he didn't want something.

I love looking at him shaking his head from side to side. As he's got a big head, he looks real comical and clumsy when he shakes his head.

3) when we say 'hide away', he'll cover his eyes with his hands. He saw this expression in 1 of the library books which I borrowed for him. I'll flip through that book with him and mimic the expression while reading it to him, so he picked that up.

4) if u ask him, how ah ma put her eye drops? He'll blink blink his eyes, which is what his ah ma will do after administering the eye drops.

5) he's learnt that there are great treasures in the fridge. He's since learnt how to ply open the fridge. The moment he ply it open, he'll mumble :"ball ball" all fruits including raisins (except banana) to him are "ball ball". He sure knows where to get his "ball ball", he'll head straight for the drawer where all the fruits are kept and take his pick.

6) there was once I left his wet diaper on the dustbin lid. While I was washing some bowls, he picked up that diaper and called:" mummy!" when I turned to answer him, he raised the diaper and goes :' eeeeeeeeeee' at me, before he turned around, open the lid of the bin and dropped the diaper in. It's as if he's reprimanding me for leaving his dirty diaper around haha. So aunty hor????

7) I tested and confirmed that he can also recognize bear, rabbit and horse on his flash cards. He'll only pick what u asks for when he is in a good mood. I only ask him to pick 2-3 cards at any one time as his attention span is only that short.

8) 'nake' is what he calls his 'snake' flash card.

I will share more on his 'aunty traits' in futures posts.

Flash Cards

I bought 4 sets of flash cards for Declan when he was only a few months old. I kept those boxes and started showing him the animal cards when he was able to sit upright. While I showed him the cards, I will also tell him the names of each and every animal. However, he never seems to be listening to me. When he was much younger, he'll just snatch my cards away and crush them. When he was much older, he prefers to mess around with the cards, such as throwing them around or just sweeping them all over the place. Having said that, I still continue to read out the animal names to him once in awhile (which is like once in a few weeks :p).

As he was about a year old, he was able to just pay a tiny bit of attention to me when i call out the animal names and show him the picture. I assume that out of the whole lot, he'll only be able to recognise the cat.

I got a pleasent surprise just now, while i was lazing in bed, I was trying to keep him occupied so that he'll allow me to just lie down for awhile, I spread out the box of flashcards for him to mess with. While I lie down, I casually ask :"Declan, can you pass me the "snake", he search for awhile and push the "snake" card in my face. Ah well done! i told him, brushing it aside as coincident. While I'm still lying down, not even looking at him, I ask ;" Where is the butterfly?" He pointed to the "butterfly" card and say "neh!" Ohhh interesting I tell myself. So I went on to ask him for "cat", "tiger" and "fish" and each time, he was able to give me the right card!

How exciting! But I decided to stop at 5 cards. In case he got bored of it.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

I took the 5 cards, held his hand and went to the living room. I spreaded the cards on the table and ask him to pick out the "butterfly" for his ah ma. He chooses the right card and gave it to his ah ma. Ah ma was excited to see him doing that. He went on to give his ah ma all the other cards correctly as I called them out indivdually.

This is an exciting milestone. He is starting to recognise the different types of animals. I'll just make do with these 5 and probably I'll try to intro 1 or 2 new animals(those more common ones) to him every few weeks. Let's see how many new animals he can recognised. So Fun!

Little Terror

I have a little terrorist at home. This fellow is very good at ambushing his malnourished mother. He'll always flash his 'white fangs' at me and sink them into my flesh at the most unexpected moments. For example, while I'm lying on my belly reading my book, he'll crawl over, sayang sayang my thighs and while I'm basking in the 'love' of my little baby, he'll pull me back to reality by 'putting a signature' on my thighs using his teeth....... OUCH OUCH OUCH! My shoulders are also full of 'love bites'.... He'll sink his teeth in when I am carrying him.... he'll only bit me... he seldom do that to his dad. On average, i'll be bitten at least twice a day...

I've tried slapping his cheeks, telling him "No" in a stern voice, scolding him fiercely (& sometimes with vulgarities :p not that I wanted to be a bad influence but sometimes it's soooooo.... painful that I lost control of my speech). I've also tried explaining to him nicely but nothing works....

Other than biting me, he also pinches and scratched me. When we are engaged in rough play, he'll also pull my hair real hard, as if he wish to pull their roots out. Sometimes he'll also surprise me with a few slaps on my face. *sob sob* Its hard being someone else's mother. Not only must we provide for them, we must also endure being 'attack' by these little terror.

I guess this is just a phase of them growing up. Let's hope this phase will pass soon before I murder the little terror. :x

Dine with you Doggies

Paisay, this post has got nothing to do with my son :p

Hey all dog lovers out there! Take note. For the month of October, BeBoz(a Mediterranean restuarant along Robertson Walk) is having a special promo whereby dog owners can dine with their doggies!

Dog owners can bring their dogs along and when owners dine, doggies get complimentary meal too! This is a very rare opportunity in Singapore. Most eating outlets don't even allow the entry of pets let alone let them dine with us right?!

So folks, anyone who is keen to experience dining with your doggies don't hesitate, drop me an email at ivy.sbl@gmail.com and leave down your contact. I will either help you make a booking or I will get the towkay to give you a call and provide you with more info. The food and ambience there is wonderful and pricing is real reasonable. Its just for the month of October! So hurry!

By the way I don't own the restaurant, it belongs to a friend, just helping him to pass message around.

Tag.....

When I went to Fannie's blog and read that she has been tagged, I have a "bad" feeling that I will be tagged soon or may already have been tagged without me knowing... After reading through Fannie's entry, I hopped on to Blurblur's site and true enough.. I was tagged.... and WIN LIAO LOH FANNIE AND BLUR! all those people whom I know and whom I can tag are all tagged by the both of u!!! Leaving me high and dry! how how how????

Before I worry about who to tage, let me just do my part and share with all the 10 things that will bring me moment of joy :

1) When Declan can sit quietly and play independently for about 20 mins. He is a boy who needs alot of attention and gets bored easily. Thus he either wants attention from adults or new toys to keep him occupied.

2) Whenever Declan calls :"mummmmmyyyyyy" in a very playful tune.

3) If i can get 24 hours of personal time to do all the things which i love to do e.g reading a good book in a quite cafe over a nice cup of brew, or sewing my x-stitch in a quiet and bright environment with nice soothing music.

4)Whenever we have the opportunity to go out as a family of three.

5)When Declan can sleep by 10.30 p.m

6) When my clients call and say thank you

7) When clients call and say they wanted to attend our complimentary "Secrets to Study Success" workshop

8) When declan laughs or giggle cheekily

9) When Declan hops off the bed and runs around naked and play catching when we are trying to dress him. You should have seen his cheeky face and hear his cheey laughter when he does that!

10) When someone feed me cheesecake!

Now now my headache starts... who should i tag???? I think I'll just be kind and end it here cos ahhh no one else for me to tag wor!

15 months update

Declan went for his 15 months injection last friday. He didn't cry as much as I thought you would. Just 2-3 loud wails with a few huge drops of tears and that's it.

His weight = 9.5kg
His Height = 76.5 cm
No. of incisors = 6

I think his remaining 2 incisors will be out in a few weeks time. It'll be good if he can add a little more chub.

New words he acquired :

1) Bei Bei - Refers to his comfort blanket

2) Bread - He pronouces it as "bwead"

3) Cat - The first reaction when he sees a cat is still to call it "dog". However when we correct him and tell him:" ohh that is a cat" he'll try to say "cat" too. By the way he also refers to lizards as "dog" -_-

4) Dat - Suppose to be "Kiat", his dad's name. He imitates us when we call his dad Kiat, he'll also shout "Dat"

5) Daddy, Mummy - He has upgraded us from mama and papa to daddy and mummy.

6) Peh - refers to our eldest brother in law

7) take - it means just that "Take"

Let's see what other new words he will learn in the next 2-3 weeks

Nice hat??? Nah it's Declan's float. Finally the dad is able to get the float up after buying and keeping it at home for months. Not a bad choice as it can be worn on the head for some shade on our way to and back from the swimming pool. Goodie Goodie!!

Photos

These photos were like 2 weeks old already. Keep wanting to post them but lazy...They were taken at a carnival 2 weeks ago.

Baby Talk

Dec has learnt to say dog and bird quite a few months back. other than bird, all other animals to him are "dog". Recently, even birds have become 'dog' to him. I kept correcting him but he still refers to cats and birds (especially) as dog.

His favorite verse at the moment is "No more" and he is quite fluent with that.

Other new words and verses he acquires are :

1) na [Chinese pronunciation of the word 'take']. other than the verse 'no more', 'na' is his most frequently use word as this little itchy hand will say 'na' whenever he wants to touch or take something.

2) ball - he calls a ball a ball but he also calls balloons and oranges 'ball ball'. So at this moment, anything which is round and smooth and bounces when u throw it is 'ball'.

3) nei nei - means milk to him. Nowadays he has developed the habit of crawling towards his dad and shout 'nei nei' repeatedly into his ears around 3.00 - 4.00 a.m every night, until his dad drags himself up to make milk for him. *phew* he didn't choose to do that to me :p other than 'nei nei' all other food to him is "mum mum"

4) night night - means gd night. He's not very fluent with this yet, one gotta strain a little to catch this.

5) duck - refers to his yellow rubber ducky.

6) hello - which sounds like 'ayo'. I think he learn this through imitating us on the phone.

7) meimei - means little sister and refers to ethy. This came as quite a surprise. I've never hear him call out meimei until yesterday.

8) momo - just heard kiat calling out to Dec and say :' baby ohh, momo momo!' "What's momo???" I asked. "ohh it means dark dark" replied kiat and Dec came stumbling back in mumbling :'momo momo' ............ This is a language which escapes me... Only the true blue Lims will understand..

9) bao bei - not sure if he understands the meaning of bao bei (means precious in mandarin) and not sure who or what he is referring to, just heard him blurt that just now.

10) or or - it means sleep.

11) mai - means don't want in hokkien

12) mama - refers to yours truely and sometimes he'll point to the cat downdstairs can call out mama.....

13) papa - refers to none other than his dad

There are also some words and verses which he can't pronounce but when we say it, he understands. They are :

1) handkerchief - he'll go pick up his hanky if u ask him to.

2) blanket - he has got a comfort blanket and when we refer to his blanket he'll know we are referring to his comfort blanket.

3) rubber ducky - he'll give pick up and show you his yellow rubber ducky.

4) yes and ok - he'll nod his head to indicate yes and ok.

5) comb hair - he'll take a comb and goes through his thin layer of hair.

6) wash hair - he'll do the action of shampooing.

7) brush teeth - he'll put his finger into his mouth and starts 'brushing'.

8) close your eyes - he'll shut his eyes but only for a few short seconds before his eyelids spring open again

So much for now. He'll be 15 months tomorrow and I really hope he can differentiates between dogs, cats and birds soon.

Motherhood makes one selfless

I think motherhood really make all ladies become very selfless. Before I become a mother, whenever I hit a shopping mall, I'll be searching for stuffs to buy for myself. Nowadays, I'll just be looking out for things to buy for my little one.

To prove this point to all, let's see what I acquire within an hour today at IMM

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

1) a box of magnetic alphabets and numbers - $5.90 (bought this cos he loves to play with fridge magnets)

2) a set of Nuby Starter Set fork and spoon - $3.90 (he is learning to self feed)

3) Garfield Soup Spoon - $2.00 (for him to try feeding himself soupy stuff and porridge)

4) A set of 4 CDs of mandarin nursery ryhmes - $15.90

5) A set of wooden magnetic puzzle - $18.80

6) A bundle of 3 tins of Friso 3 (2 cans of 900G + 1 can of 400G) - $37.80 (not in pic)

7) A pair of snoopy squeaky sandles - $9.90 (I promise not to let him wear this to enclose areas, he'll only use this when I bring him downstairs for walk)

8) Avent silicon teats - $5.15

9) 2 butter cup cakes and 1 sponge cup cake - $2.80 (not in pic)

SEE SEE????? Everything I bought was for him and it cost me a total of $102.15!! How much did I spend on myself on this trip? ZERO dollar, not even transport fee as I took free shutter service to and fro.

This trip means no more shopping for my own clothes, shoes or bags this month. But the joy of seeing our little one's eyes lit up when they see their new toys will more than compensate for the lost of personal enjoyment doesn't it? I bet all mummies will agree with me.

Walk

Ladies and gentlemen, I am please to announce that Master Declan are showing signs of adopting 'WALKING' as his main mode of "transporting" himself from point A to point B. In fact he can already walk few weeks back but just 1 or 2 steps at a time. These few days, he can walk on his own for quite a distance and the ambitious him even attempted to run.....

So now, concern uncles and aunties can quit asking me how come he is not walking yet.

Bringing him out is a nightmare now. The 'hao lian' fellow prefers to stumble all around the shopping mall instead of allowing us to carry him.... He even wanted to push the pram and hence causing severe human traffic jam at the oredi very crowded Suntec City..... His dad have to wrestle with him to keep him in his arm in order to clear the 'obstruction' before anyone issue us a summon.

I was browsing in a shop when I suddenly saw a head bob out from under the racks and a pair of round eyes looking up at me and say:"Mama!" ohhh that's my son! I can hear some ladies giggling at the sight of a straying baby crawling rapidly around on the shop floor like a lost little mouse. Apparently his dad has lost his grip on him and that's when he goes scrambling away trying to explore the big world out there.....

we spend the rest of the shopping trip trying to keep him in the pram or in our arms while he keep fighting and screaming to be let down. We'll rather let him scream and behave like a spoilt brat than risk loosing him in the crowd. SIONG AHHHHHHH!!!!!

Milk AGAIN???

I'm back... he just wanted milk.. yet AGAIN!... he just took 180ml... now he's taking another 90ml...

What's happening??? For the past 2 days, he's been asking for extraordinary amount of milk. After taking 120ml, within half hour he'll scream and demand for more milk, so we'll just make another 60-90ml for him as we don't want him to be over bloated... shortly after taking the extra 60-90ml, he'll want another feed!!!

*scratch head* what kind of syndrome can this be??

His granny reprimanded him and say :" At the rate you are drinking the milk ahhh your daddy will not earn fast enough to buy u enough milk!"

He's ill Again

Aiyah... just when I was still celebrating his recovery from his stomach flu.. He’s down again with fever, cough and leaky nose.... Fortunately, he's still pretty active despite being unwell. His appetite for porridge and rice is gone, instead, he's drinking more milk now. From his usual 120ml last feed before he goes to bed each night, he's now demanding nearly 200ml. His usual afternoon feed of 90-120ml has also increased to 180ml.

Feeding him medication is a real nightmare!!! I basically gotta wrestle with him and pin him down before I administer the medication into his mouth with the help of a syringe. In the process, it's quite common to poke him accidentally somewhere in the face due to all his struggles and at times, he'll knock his head against furniture....

This boy when he is ill is extremely demanding and sticky. He'll want to be carried all the time and he'll whine and scream at the slightest provocation. Sometimes I and mil will really be at a lost, we simply can't interpret what he wants. hmmmm he behaves more like a whiny girl than a macho man.... that's bad...

At this point, while I'm blogging, he's screaming his head off outside with his grandma at his side and keep asking in an exasperated voice :"what you want?? what you want???" I guess I better get going to relieve her; otherwise she'll go insane very soon.
